An engraved wine glass is one of the easiest personalized gifts to get right, and one of the easiest to get wrong. The glass is fine. The trouble is usually the engraving: too much text, too many ideas, or a line that only made sense as a joke on the day. This guide is about what to put on an engraved wine glass so it still feels right a year from now.
Here is how we think about it at Skillberry, where every glass is laser-engraved to order in Latvia.
Start With the Moment, Not the Glass
Before you think about fonts or layouts, decide what the glass is for. A wedding, a birthday, a new home, a thank-you. Each one asks for something different.
A wedding glass often carries a date and two initials. A birthday glass might carry a name and a year. A thank-you glass might carry a single line. If you can say in one breath what the glass marks, you already know roughly what belongs on it.
Our Custom Engraved Wine Glass (370 ml) is made for exactly these moments: weddings, birthdays and anniversaries. We engrave your name, date, initials or design directly into the glass.
What to Engrave on a Wine Glass: Five Ideas That Work
These are the engraving styles we see work again and again. None of them need a long text.
A date. The simplest option. A wedding day, a first meeting, a move. A date reads as quiet and confident.
Initials. Two letters, or three. They look tidy on a glass, and they work for a couple, a family or a single person.
A single short line. Something that would hold up if a stranger read it. A place, a word, a phrase from a shared story. Short lines engrave cleanly and stay easy to read.
A name. Good for a birthday, a host gift or a set of glasses where each one belongs to someone at the table.
A small design or logo. For a restaurant, a bar or a business gift, a simple mark says more than a paragraph. Send us the file and we will work out how it sits on the glass.
Keep It Short, Keep It Readable
Glass is a small canvas. It is curved, it is see-through, and it gets held and turned.
Short text reads best. A few words at a comfortable size will always look better than a full sentence squeezed in. If you have a lot to say, pick the one part that matters most and leave the rest for the card.
Simple layouts age well too. Trends in lettering come and go. A clean name and date does not go out of fashion.
And think about the drinker. A glass gets picked up, tilted and passed around. Put the engraving where it will be seen, not where a hand will cover it.
Made for Everyday Use
A gift glass should be used, not kept in a cabinet. Ours are dishwasher safe, so the glass can go through normal life. The engraving is worked into the glass itself. It is not a sticker or a printed layer.
That matters for gifts. Nobody wants to hand-wash a present on the day they receive it.
Making the Gift Feel Finished
A glass on its own is a nice gift. A glass with a little context is a better one.
Pair a glass with a matching one for a couple. Add a second glass with a different name for a housewarming. Or set the glass inside a Custom Engraved Wooden Box, which is laser-engraved with your message and works well as gift packaging that gets kept afterwards.
If you host, you might also like our Custom Logo Slate Coasters. They are engraved to order, so the table can carry the same name, date or logo as the glasses.
Ordering for a Business or a Crowd
We also make engraved glasses in sets for restaurants and bars. A wine list, a tasting room or a wedding venue can all carry the same simple mark across every glass.
Orders run from a single piece up to full corporate volumes. For larger quantities, write to us first so we can confirm a timeline that works. Standard consumer orders are usually ready in 2 to 4 business days, and we ship across Europe.
Not Sure What to Engrave?
That is a very normal place to start. Tell us who the glass is for and what you would like it to say, and we will suggest a layout that fits. Every piece begins with an idea, and we are glad to help shape yours.
Just reach out. You name it. We create it.
